HISTORY:
Annelise always hated her name. That was the first thing she was sure of when she was only four years old. She refused to go by it if she could help it, though the nickname Lynx didn’t show up until many years later. She also would say she hated her parents, but that wouldn’t be a fair assessment being that she never really knew them. If she saw them in the crowd she wouldn’t be able to pick them out, running to them and joyfully yelling their names. She would never be the teenager who fought with them. She would never complain to her other friends how horrible they were. Even though they lived very near to each other, Annelise never saw her parents after the day she turned three. Well, that’s not true, but she never knew them as her parents.
In the community she grew up in, they were very close to their cats. They lived nearly like a pack of Lynxes, because they all shifted into that beast, only much more pack oriented of course. The children, once they turned three, all lived in the same house and it was more the community that raised them than anything else. They played and scrapped around with each other and went utterly wild. They were taught to hunt, they were provided for, they were sheltered. And Anne loved this group of kids, even if they called her Nymph for her small size, it was better than the name assigned to her by parents she didn’t even know. Not much to tell about this, except for when she turned about 10 or so and met another person, a boy, who she got very close with. They stuck together like glue.
In this community, after a person has their first shift they are considered an adult and expected to learn to fend for themselves rather than having the community provide for them. They were expected to hunt, to protect themselves, and it wasn’t the easiest life because the little girl’s mouth often got her into fights. She knew how to fight though, knew how to be dominant, knew how to kick ass, so she survived. And her, along with her friend, fell into a group of kids that snuck out at night, and they parited, getting away from the regimented life within the pack life so they could finally let go and just be teenagers, rather than adults all of the time. She and her age-mates were more like family than anything else, it was encouraged within the community to be so. They were your family because they were who would someday help you take care of this community. And it was stated from a young age that she and her friend were contenders for leaders of the pack because of the fierce way they acted and took charge among their age mates.
When they heard this, they started to think. They didn’t want to lead their pack. They wanted freedom, they wanted to be able to run wild and do their own thing. They were sick of the pack, sick of the way it imposed its laws on them. Now maybe it was the hormones talking, because physically they still appeared as teenagers, or maybe it was their wild personalities. But they decided it wasn’t what they wanted. They knew getting chosen as Alpha and Beta, as thy figured they would be, would be the worst thing for their freedom possible. So they wanted out. And they devised a plan to get out. Because the pack had another rule: either you lived with the pack or you died. There was no leaving, no getting out. It was almost cultlike that way. But no one ever left, so they figured they could do it.
The plan went smoothly until the guards caught them. They had to separate, chosing a place to meet up in the nearby city, they separated from one another and they ran. As fast and as far as they could. Annelise got away. She waited and waited by that fountain for him, curling up on a bench near it to sleep. It was only when, a week later, she was beginning to feel the affects of this that she figured he had been captured, and killed, and she left. She didn’t know what to do in this city environment. She knew she needed clothes, that was the first thing. In their society, they shifted so often it was impractical and the weather was always so warm it wasn’t needed. Plus, despite the blanket she threw over herself after noticing the stares the first day there, she knew she couldn’t live under a blanket. So she stole her clothes, they were bright and they didn’t much match. But she liked it.
But everything else scaredher. She didn’t know what to do with city life. It was loud and wild and it scared the hell out of her. To top it all off, this was when her bipolar disorder made itself known and her highs and lows weren’t helping. She didn’t know what to do. She was hungry, and scared, and had no where to stay. She found herself crying in an alley, and when someone wanted to help her, she killed without thinking, which sunk her down worse. She shifted, unsure what else to do, and took off running. But a random Lynx in a city tends to cause notice. Another shifter found her, a lion she found out later, and calmed her until she shifted back, in a high now because she had found another. His name was Liam, and he gave her clothes. When she refused to give him her name he started calling her Lynx and it stuck. He gave her a place to stay, with a bunch of other ‘Cats. They were technically squatters but no one messed with them.
They introduced her to clubs. And alcohol. And Drugs. And she thought it was amazing beucase it stopped her from feeling the effects of her bipolar disorder. And she went a tad wild. The life she lived because a tad blurry, a moving flash of highs, lows, drunken nights, wild parties, wild highs, living life, lots of sex and who knows what else.
And then two years ago she learned about her age-mate. Her partner that she was supposed to have escaped with. She was over joyed to hear he was okay, missing him terribly of course, however he was in an institution. An insane asylum as it was. She didn’t know why but when she got there, because of course she was going there, he seemed utterly insane. Out of his mind. But still him…still him. So she couldn’t help it, she joined the asylum of her own free will and found herself loyal to the bone to Loca Loca and the boy she had grown up with. And here she’s been ever since…and she started partying again.
Until she paused for a moment a month ago, and realized she was pregnant. She wasn’t sure who did it, she wasn’t sure how it happened, but she knew it had. And she knew she needed to fix that. But that wore off again…and she started partying again and going crazy again, despite the risk to the baby. She couldn’t help it, she was a wild child.
PERSONALITY:
Wacky, would be the best way to describe Lynx. She’s bouncy, hyperactive, psychotic, always grinning. Well, not always, but I’ll get to that. She usually is grinning, even when she kills. Because boy does this girl kill. She doesn’t always mean to but she’s very close to the cat inside her and it has corrupted her mind a little. Just a little. She tends to be confrontational and get in fights, but she still is laughing and grinning, most of the time she is in the “high” state of her bipolar disorder and it shows very clearly in the way that she acts.
When she is in a low, she cries a lot, a lot. She can’t stop sometimes and will go for hours. Anyone tries to talk to her usually gets hurt. She’s still very violent in this state, but she’s always violent. The thing is, in her “lows” she never shifts, unlike in her highs where she does quite often. Also, being a month pregnant doesn’t help, her hormones make the bipolar even worse and she fluctuates almost constantly, though her high’s always last longer. She’s usually a lot of fun to be around when she’s happy though, and is a big partier. The life of a party one might say. She know’s she is pregnant also, but that doesn’t stop her from doing stuff she shouldn’t like getting high and drinking. She knows she should stop, but that’s how she copes with the bipolar.
