A deep, heavy sigh left the lips of one Serenity O’Deina as she closed her eyes, bringing her hands up to scrub her face for what felt like the millionth time. She was just off today. So off, it happened a lot more lately in this place than it had ever happened back in Fell’s Church. For a place that was supposed to make you better, this place sure was fucking her up in the worse possible ways. Her stupid Shrink who she hated told her she looked like she was developing a case of depression. Serrie didn’t doubt it with the way she was feeling lately.
She had been happier, of course, since knowing that Iris was here. Iris was one of her life lines, one of the people who meant the most to Serenity. Iris being around, that made her grin a lot more than she had in past weeks. And now she knew that Seth was here too, and now that he was the Foster in her house? She had a lot of responsibilities gone from her life and just plain felt safer. But safer was different than happy, so much more different. How could she be happy? Iris being here was amazing, but she’d be off with Seth sometimes being that the pair of them were running a family of vampires. Which was another issue to remember of course, both Iris and Seth were vampires, not that she remembered this fact when she was around them.
But sometimes a girl needed a friend that wasn’t part of a race that terrified her.
She missed Colin. Just thinking the name made her sigh again, looking out the window. Window of where? Class. For the first time ever, class simply couldn’t catch Serenity’s attention. She didn’t want to be here. Didn’t want to be sitting here when she should be back at Fell’s Church, rolling her eyes at the notes she got from Colin, laughing over stuff Iris wrote, smiling at Beau’s attempts to defend her for some god only knows reason. She missed that. Missed that fun little dynamic that had somehow managed to come into her life. Now classes just seemed entirely dull, and the teachers couldn’t keep the little Irish girl’s attention. And this was English class, her best subject. She just couldn’t stomach sitting through it though. It was enough to make her wish she could stab herself with her pencil and get out of it.
Pulling the sweatshirt close around her, she attempted to draw her attention back to the lecture with not much luck. The sweatshirt Seth’s again because his scent always managed to mean safe to her and also it was huge. Which meant there was no skin showing and she could pull it over her hands. With Serenity that was always a plus. But, though the scent meant she was safe in her weird mind, it didn’t comfort her like it used to when she was back where she wa ssupposed to be. It wasn’t enough anymore. No.
Another heavy sigh.
That’s it, she couldn’t do this anymore. Ignoring the cries of Ms. O’Deina! from the teacher, she got up and just left, her backpack slung over her shoulder as she did. The teacher couldn’t come after her, he had to keep an eye on the class because they were all slightly crazy. Appaqrently herself included but Serrie didn’t think she was crazy, just stuck. Just horribly stuck. Her phobia had been getting better anyway, with Colin’s help.
And there he was in her thoughts again. She shook her head, refusing to sigh again as she deftly zoomed through the halls, avoiding the Wardens positioned through out this place. She was good at being nearly invisible, it was what had kept her alive all these years, and it was what had kept her unnoticed in this damn town so far, she intended to stick to it too. She just wanted to be out of here, out of this school, this town, this…ugh. She just wanted to be free. Hoenstly, she could deal with being in this town if she could have the people she loved with her. Not that she would wish that upon anyone, no. No she didn’t think the people she loved should have to deal with this town too…that was just selfish of her. And she had never been selfish before, she would not start now of all times.
Her feet had carried her to the field that sat in the back of the school, unseen from the front and pretty secluded, which was what the little witch needed right now. She needed to be just…on her own. No, not on her own, but the company she wanted wasn’t here and she didn’t want him to have to deal with this place too. She was a big girl, she could take her mourning in silence and move along, hopefully. She would also go slowly more and more insane but she was trying to come to terms with that one. Not working very well but she was trying at least, that had to count for something.
Serrie dumped her backpack on the bleachers, she didn’t care about anything that was in there anyway, just notebooks and pens and shit. The notebooks didn’t even have any notes. What happened to the good student she used to be?
Either way, the little blonde and blue haired girl shook her head and walked away from the bleachers, not heading anywhere but just walking, eyes closed, feeling the chilly air on her face as she did. She wanted to just…walk. She sighed again, pulling her hair from the ponytail she had bound it in before class and walking…Softly, she spoke, her Irish accent barely noticeable because she wasn’t startled, she was pretty relaxed in fact. ”Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?” she asked the sky, opening her eyes again to look at the ice blue sky, wishing she knew…
Had he moved on without her? Found another, way less spazy girlfriend? Did he miss her? She wished, for once, that she could use her gift to see him like she knew another clairvoyant witch here could…

Colin was so frustrated. He was worn out and tired and yet he was still dragging himself out of bed, why was he doing it? Just for the hope of being able to find Serenity. He rolled over his bed scratching his brown hair and frowning as he thought about how he had been here for days and had yet to find her or any of her friends who seemed to have disappeared from Fell's church around the same time that she did.
He sat up in bed and planted his feet firmly on the cold hard wood floor. He flexed his toes against it as he tried stretching to see if it would get the tenseness out of his back, it didn't seem to be working. He had been working out lately just to see if it would relieve the tension that was constantly in his body now that he was without her, but it did nothing except make him sore in spots he never knew he even had.
The London born eighteen year old stood up without making his bed and crossed over to the mirror on the dresser in his room. He sighed as he looked at a face he didn't recognize, his face was drawn and looked like it had about a weeks worth of stubble to match the deep blue black circles under his eyes, most people would have seen that and thought that he had just gotten really beat up, no they were from lack of sleep. He frowned again at the reflection and pushed his hand against the mirror as if he could push it away.
Then walked over to the bathroom, he needed to shave and actually try and look nice. There was always the possibility that he would find her today and for a moment, his heart soared thinking about seeing her, watching her smile at him and freak out at him in her Irish accent, but quickly the thought only squeezed his heart in utter pain. He was losing hope about ever finding her, and he was losing it fast. He sighed shaking his head, he couldn't lose hope of finding her. He simply was not allowed too he knew that he was destined to find her and they would be together again and he would take her away from this place and they would be happy...
He sighed taking off his sweat pants and blasting the hot water for the shower. Yeah that was what he needed, he needed a good shower so he could shake off this foul mood and go into another day of looking for her with a clear head and a happy smile. He would find her, he would find her if it was the last thing he ever did. After showing he came out and shaved just so that he would look more presentable in case that he did find her. He hoped that today would be the day...he needed her...who else would he quote Shakespearean literature with?
There was nothing he could do about the bags under his light brown eyes but it would just have to do, he went back into his bed room and started getting dressed in simple blue jeans a black tee and black blazer with some dress shoes. This was presentable enough, he went over to the dresser and grabbed his fathers favorite lighter and slipped it into his pocket before slamming the door behind him on the way out. He took a deep breath and started down stairs and out the door into the fresh morning air.
He breathed it in and it lifted his mood a little, but he was more focused on his destination. He was headed to the High School today, technically he should have been there already just to attend classes. Colin couldn't focus on classes right now though, he wouldn't be able to focus on anything until he found her. He thought he sounded a little pathetic but he didn't care. It didn't matter. Sure, it had been a really short time in dating but he was in love with her. He realized it as soon as she had gone missing. He loved her and he needed to have her back .
The walk over to the school was uneventful, he had just thought of all the memories they had together, feeling the scar on his head from that time he had fell out of the tree. He smirked, even if he ended up with a head injury, he always always had the best time when he was with her and that was something he didn't think was going to ever change. Especially once he got her back to him.
He stood in front of the school staring up at it with his light eyes, and for some reason. He just couldn't go in. He felt so nervous, like if he went in and she wasn't there he would have no other place to look and if he just stood here and didn't go inside then he would have the hope, the little small lingering hope inside him that some where inside of these brick walls, was his Serenity, he laughed a little at himself. He was being so stupid, why didn't he just march right in?
He sighed and turned around deciding to walk to the back of the school and maybe just sit and think for a little while. He walked feeling the ground crunch underneath his feet when he heard someone speak. He blinked stopping.
Could it be? No it couldn't be. It couldn't possibly be. Colin wasn't that lucky. He wasn't that Lucky at all. He kept walking keeping his head turned in the direction the voice was in, he could see each puff of his breath even though it wasn't even all that cold out.
Serenity. She was right there, she was sitting right there on the bleachers and she looked so sad and he instantly wanted to run to her and comfort her but he didn't. He didn't because he knew how she reacted to touch. He decided that he would instead, reply to her line from Shakespeare with a little line of his own.
"Shall I hear more, or shall I speak at this?he said with a little grin, he couldn't help it, he was so happy to see her. He was overjoyed. Nothing could bring him down right now.
"Darling you do know that means why and not where right?he said with a grin at her walking towards Serenity. She was here, he could smell her and see her and he wanted to touch her but he could wait. She was here and he had her, that was all that mattered.

She sighed again. Serenity O’Deina was beginning to question why she bothered anyway. The people around here seemed to think she was depressed beyond help, she knew they were probably right. Her gift was slowly going more and more outside of her control. She was miserable and it was beginning to wear down on her. She didn’t mean to be this depressed, she just really couldn’t help it. She tried, truly she did. So hard. And it helped now that Seth and Iris were here. And she loved them both, she really did so much it wasn’t even possible for her to put it out into words.
They were both her saviors in so many ways, and knowing they were leading a certain batch of vamps made her relax because she knew the chances of her getting attacked was lessening. But it wasn’t the same. Being safe was never the same as being happy, and she just wasn’t happy. Even reading, even English class, it all didn’t help. In fact, it just made it worse. There were always couples in books, always a pair of “perfect for each other” types in every novel that made her want to stab herself. She couldn’t take anymore professions of love, no more!
Love.
The word made her sigh again. She barely knew him, they had only just met weeks before, she had refused to tell him her name and wished he would leave her alone for the longest time. It didn’t matter. It didn’t matter at all, because now that she had let him in, she had expected him to be there. She had expected him to always be there for her, and now he wasn’t. And she was suffering so heavily for it. She felt like each day dragged down worse and worse until it didn’t matter anymore. She was so sad all the time and it tugged at her. All day long. She was sighing again. Which was why she had left class even though she was never the type to do that before. She couldn’t sit in there anymore.
She had made it all the way out to the fields though before she couldn’t go any farther. She just didn’t want to…go. There was no where special that was just hers anymore. There was no where for her to run to, no special river that was just hers to practice at. No apartment with all her mixed up furnature. She started to feel tears prickling in her eyes and pushed it down. She didn’t want to be here anymore, she wanted to be back home. And as much as she would never admit itout loud, part of that home was wherever Colin was. She could make a home out of anywhere as long as she had him with her.
What a sappy thought.
She paused for a moment, but that was when she had started to pace the field, saying the first line of Juliet’s monologue about names before she paused for a moment before continuing the rest. Romeo and Juliet, it was the first bit of Shakespeare that Colin and herself and recited back and forth. It made her actally smile a little to think about it. She had been so surprised, like shocked out of her mind was like it, when she had heard him say it back to her, no flaws and no book. He had simply known it like it came as easily as breathing to him. Like it came as easily to him as it came to her. But she had been reciting it since she was little. She wondered how he knew it.
She would never find out. And with that, the smile died, and the slight happiness at that memory had faded. She couldn’t find out anything more about him. Couldn’t get over her touch issues slowly because he wasn’t here to slowly coax her to just by being him. Just by being the only person who didn’t set off her Sight every time she touched him. It was so relaxing to know he was blank to her, so amazing to know he wouldn’t set her off. It meant she could just touch him, not that she did. She wish she had touched him more. It would have given her more memories maybe…She would never let another person touch her after all, he was lucky she had let him touch her.
And then another voice called out into the field.
She froze, entirely, she would be surprised if she was even breathing at all right then. In fact, she didn’’t think she was. And then she turned towards the voice. No…no it couldn’t be him. No, there was no way he was here. Why would he be here? He wasn’t crazy. This was too much of a coincidence. First Iris and Seth, and now him. She couldn’t believe he was actually here. She had just gone insane finally and conjured up the image to calm herself down. But…she couldn’t help it. She took a hesitant step forward, faltering almost like she wa sexpecting him to disappear as soon as she did. But he didn’t. No…he didn’t…she took another cautious step, and again he was just there…just there….He was there. With that, she bolted, running towards him, a little Irish ball of happiness. She was so convinced that she would get there and go right through him, but no, the body she locked her arms around was solid and there.
He was there.
She buried her face against him, breathing him in. If this was an illusion, it was the best one she had ever conjured up and she had a really good imagination because it felt like him, and when she breathed him in, it smelt like him. And she didn’t want to let go. Her issues with touch be dammed, she wasn’t moving. Nope, not gonna move at all, he was stuck with her clinging to him like a fricken monkey or something. She was right and happy right here. And she didn’t notice she was crying until she had gotten his shirt wet and she felt it against his skin. She pulled back, wiping her cheeks against her shoulder because she didn’t want to get his shirt all wet and gross from her tears and she also didn’t want to disengage her arms from around him.
He was there.
Her mind kept repeating it, and she knew she should say something, but she couldn’t figure out anything to say off the top of her head. It was another quotation, same scene, but farther along. How camest thou hither, tell me, and wherefore? The orchard walls are high and hard to climb, And the place death, considering who thou art, If any of my kinsmen find thee here.” the quote didn’t exactly fit, but it basically got her question across. How had he found her? And would she be able to keep him with her, or would the Wardens spaz out and make him leave….and could she go with him if he did…
And then he corrected her Shakespeare. She pulled back and scowled a bit at him, tears or not she was still Serenity, and she hated when this boy got all cocky with her. Not that he didn’t all the time anyway. She had spent the first half of their relationship denying what it was after all, for that very reason. But the scowl faded and she rolled her eyes, shaking her head a little. ”Do ye think me not well versed? I know that, boyo” she said. And then she had to…she had to…she might hate touch, but she hadn’t seen him in too long…
She leaned up and pressed her lips to his softly.

Colin had never dreamed of being lucky again. He had thought that all of his luck had run out. After his father was murdered and his mother moved back to England Colin didn't think he was lucky anymore. The he had found Serenity and she had captivated and infuriated him from the moment they had meant and that was what had hooked him to her, she was a little Irish ball of wonder that he never ever wanted to let go ever.
Then he had lost her and once again he had doomed himself to thinking that he was not lucky. He was not lucky in the slightest. He was less than not lucky. He thought he had bad luck since had lost her. He was in love with her even after such a short time of being together he knew that he was in love with her and it was so scary because Colin had never ever loved anyone before. Not any girlfriend that he ever had and he had many girlfriends. This was different though, he wanted Serenity to meet his mother. He had never ever wanted to introduce a girl to his mother before.
So he left Fell's Church where he had met his beloved Serenity and went to where he had followed her friends, a town called Black Springs and he had searched for her and he had found nothing and he was beginning to lose all hope and really start to believe that he now had bad luck.
Then he found her and He couldn't believe his eyes and he couldn't believe that after all this time. Here she was right so close that he could touch her because he was so afraid to because one she was very freaky about touch and two he was afraid that if he touched her he'd wake up in his bed and realize that this was all a dream that was made to torture him and tease him with thoughts of being near the most amazing women he had ever met in his entire life
So instead he just stood there and grinned at her, as he quoted a a line Romeo and Juliet at her like she had into the air. This is what they had done when they first met. They had quoted Shakespeare at each other and she had been clearly stunned at how well versed he was. When he had come to her house he had given her an old worn out copy of Romeo and Juliet and he found himself standing there wondering if she still had it and if she did, did she read it all the time? Was she thinking of him as she read it?
When he spoke she stopped and turned and just sort of stared at him and for the moment he wondered if she wasn't happy to see him. If she had moved on and that was why she had left in the first place...if she was done with him and this was the end...He was now panicking waiting for her to do something and react to him standing there feeling absolutely nothing but love for her.
Then she took a step forward and another until she launched herself at him glomping him and he laughed loudly and held her close to him. If he had known that she was going to react this way then he would have just ran and picked her up and spun her as soon as he saw her. It felt so good to have her in his arms. So good to have her tiny little body against his, smelling her scent and just having the feel of her around him made him so much better. Everything was great now, and his luck was back. He had his Serenity.
She spoke saying another line from that same scene but a different part and he just grinned at her while she did. She was the only girl he knew who could do this. The only girl he knew that quote Shakespeare like she had been reading it when she was just a baby. He loved this about her just like all the other things he loved about her. The quote didn't quite fit but he would quote back anyway and explain to her at the same time.
"With love's light wings did I o'erperch these walls; For stony limits cannot hold love out,And what love can do, that dares love attempt. Therefore thy kinsmen are no stop to me.This was true, love had led him here. Because he loved her so much Love's light wings had brought him where he needed to be, which was with her. "I followed your friends...and I searched and searched until I found you luv...Couldn't be in that bloody town without you"he said with a smile.
This was another truth, Fell's Church was nothing without having his Serenity there and once they got out of this damn place he wasn't sure they were actually going to go back there. Perhaps they could go travel through Europe together...she could show him Ireland or something.
He had corrected her quote and she scowled at him with tears in her eyes and he just grinned at her. She could scowl at him all she liked it made no difference to him because he was too happy to see her to let anything get him down. She was saying that she knew what it meant and he nodded because to him it wasn't important at that moment and then she did something that he totally did not expect from her.
She kissed him. He leaned into this kiss completely doing his best to keep it soft as to not freak her out but he wanted more, he wanted so much more. He wanted to pick her up and spin her about and kiss her deeply because that was how much joy that was inside him right now but he didn't for her. He held back then pulled away and smiled at her even though he wanted to kiss her more
"I missed you...I missed you so much"he said then kissed her again because he couldn't help it he pulled away though quickly and blushed not because he was embarrassed but because he was afraid she was going to freak out. He smiled at her anyway though. He didn't think he could stop smiling if he tried.

Serenity had felt so utterly and entirely alone for the longest time. And she didn’t just mean now, here at Black Springs the hell town. Even back all the way to Ireland, she had always felt so alone. It was like there was this big aching gap inside of her. She had ignored it for as long as possible, to the point that she had forgotten it had existed. She had pretended that she was fine, that she liked being a nomad. That she liked being entirely on the move, scared and alone all the time. It was no way to live, but it was how she had lived.
She had known she’d be alone. How could she not be? Her Gift of the Sight meant that she could never touch another person, not if she didn’t want a glimpse of their future or their past. And trust me, she didn’t want it. So instead she had plugged along, realizing she never had a future that involved anyone else. She’d always be alone, never have kids, never have love. If she couldn’t touch someone, how could she have those things? It seemed ridiculous to even fantasize about it, or wish it could come true, so she had never thought about what it may be like to have love.
She decided she was fine alone.
And then she had met Iris, who was absolutely amazing and her best friend. Even if Iris set off her gift all the time, and they could never laugh and hug like normal friends could, she still had Iris and that was important to her. Every girl needed their best friend who would be there with them no matter what, or no matter how entirely crazy you seemed. And Iris was that for her, that amazingly perfect best friend that was one in a million.
And of course she had Seth.
And then he came along. This boy, this amazing boy. Who she scowled at at first, who she kept her name from, who aggravated her because he wouldn’t leave her alone. Who touched her without setting off her gift and for the first time made her want to be touched again. This boy, who filled the hole in her that she had made in herself so long ago and forgotten about. Along with Iris, he made her feel not so alone anymore. Colin. The boy who said Shakespeare and teased her and made her laugh. The boy she had fallen in love with somewhere down the road, and not realized it.
But then she had been ripped away. Ripped from a life she had cared about, people who had filled the gap inside her. Taken from love, potential love, and friendship. TO this place where she felt like she was going to break down and go insane for real like they expected her to. Where she felt like she was just going to end it to make it all better, she felt the hole inside her reopen without those people that actually loved her and she loved in return, and this time she couldn’t forget about it. And let me tell you, it hurt. Hurt so badly, she ached and sighed all the time.
Which had led her to here, to this field where she was reciting Shakespeare out into the open air, just wishing for him to appear. And then he did. And she couldn’t be happier. But when she first heard his voice, first saw him, she couldn’t help but feel like it had to be a dream. It had to be an illusion. Her mind had finally pushed her over the edge was all it was, because her Colin couldn’t possibly be here with her right now, that wouldn’t fit in with the hell her life had become over these past few…what was it now? She didn’t even remember how long she had been here, she had stopped keeping count when she figured out she was stuck.
She launched herself at him, just to make sure he was real, and when she came in contact with him…it was amazing. He smelled just like she remembered, felt like heaven, She never wanted to move ever again. He laughed, and he held her, and she was content to stay right there. She had issues with touch, but those didn’t count right now. All that counted was him, he was all that mattered, and she didn’t think she could wipe the grin off her face anymore than she could stop the tears from her eyes.
She quoted Shakespeare again, wrong part but it suited the question she wanted to ask. When he answered her back in perfect quotation, it was hard not to smile. She loved that he knew it, and could speak it so perfectly, all the same she never expected it from him. It just made her smile everytime, though it had shocked the hell out of her when they had first met. But then he answered in real English and she nodded, well that made sense and made the fact that they all showed up around the same time make a lot more sense. But the fact that he had gone through that to see her again…it made her start tearing up all over again, and she couldn’t help but sniffle, crying again because she was touched.
He said he couldn’t be there without her. Like she was someone important. Oh shite she was going to start full on crying. Instead, she did something that shocked the both of them, but she had missed him too much to care too much about how out of character this usually would be for her. She kissed him. It was a soft kiss, because that was what Serrie could manage before she freaked herself out far too much to deal. But it was a kiss, one full of longing and how much she missed him. She smiled when he said he missed her. ”Missed you more, boyo” she couldn’t help but reply to him, and kissed him back when he kissed her.
He pulled away, grinning at her, and she smiled right back. Most she had smiled since her mother died most likely, but it was worth it for him, it was always worth it for him. She bit her lip a little, because her train of thought…well…only one way to describe it. And it made her nervous. To even think about it…she had no experience…she shouldn’t…but oh well. She shook her head, grinning still. ”I wanna try summin,” she said, her accent thick because even the idea made her nervous. ”Don’ laugh if I suck” was his only warning before she kissed him again, only this time she didn’t keep it light and soft. She wanted to kiss him more, deeper, just to see…how far she could go before she freaked and pulled away…
Words: 1192 Muse: Blech, there and gone, there and gone. Too tired to be posting lol Comments: Sorry this sucks. But she kissed him deeper! A Serrie First!
