FAQ
[/blockquote][/blockquote]Hey there! Jinx the Voice here! And I am going to do my best to answer any questions that you guys may have. If there is anything I didn't cover, post your questions in the subboard for that or PM me! So, here it goes, ask away!
Fae, Faerie, Faery? What's the difference?
Good question! It is a hard thing to figure out unless you grew up on these rules and knowing, but I'll fill you all in. Faerie is the place that they are from, it is the name of the world, just as Earth is the name of ours. Faery is one single being of the race. Fae is more than one Faery, it's the plural. I know, it makes tons of sense, but them's the rules.
Why when a Fae marries a King or Queen do they not become a King or Queen?
This is because, despite them being an equal to their significant other, they were not trained to be a king or queen. They were not raised, as most are, or trained for a very long time to take the role. To let someone who just happened to marry a King or Queen become a monarch would be giving them power they hadn't been trained for. It's also to make sure that people don't marry a monarch just for power. Not that marriage is all that common in Faerie! Its so rare, it practically doesn't exist.
If a Fae has more or less than half Fae blood, what does that make them?
If A Half Fae (one who's half Fae, half Human) has a child with a human, their blood is considered too diluted to be even a Half Fae, they would be called Human by the courts. If a Half Fae has a child with another Fae (which is rare but it course happen) and gives the child more Fae in their system, they are considered part of the court and thus a full Fae by the Fae society. Anywhere from 35% to 65% Fae blood makes them considered a half.
How do the Sighted exist?
This is a very good question that has a lot of theories, but not a lot of answers. The most prominent theory is that there is a Faery somewhere in their background and that their blood got so diluted that all that was left was the Sight, but there is no real reason for it that anyone is certain off. What is certain is that most Fae do kill the Sighted because they do not like having a human around that can see what they really are, or see them when they want to be hidden from human eyes.
Why do Fae take humans?
There are so many reasons. One major one being that humans can be very pretty (or very artistic in the mind of the Seelie Fae) and thus attract the attention of a Fae, making them possessive and want to claim the child, for no matter how old a Human is, he or she shall still be considered a child, for themselves. Another reason is that it is hard for the Fae to have children, so even a Half Fae is better than nothing to keep the Fae blood going, because the Half Fae can always then have a child by a full Fae, restoring the blood in that child's lineage. Another reason is simply because they're bored, to be fully honest, or perhaps to punish a relative of this person who wronged them. The list can be as extensive as asking someone why they got a puppy.
How many species of the Fae are there?
More than can be counted! There are nymphs (Water, Wood Etc.) There are Fae that look like animals(Snakes, Birds) Even Fae who just look demonic and have no humanoid look to them what so ever.Ones that lead humans to safety and ones that will enchant and kill them. There are Fae that are the stuff of legends, and tiny little piskies (pixies) that look sweet but size can be deceiving. Having trouble figuring out what species you want to use? The Admins are more than happy to help you figure it out if you know what types of things you want to be able to do.The only reason there are no lists on site is because there are so many breeds and so many legends. Odds are whatever you come up with, could potentially be a breed of Fae, so work it into your app and we will tell you if it is okay or not!
Why are most Fae royalty queens?
The simple answer is, that's how it has always been. It is very rare that there is a Faerie King in all of the Folklore we have ever read. There could be multiple reasons for this, such as the low birth rate when it comes to Fae, perhaps sons are hard to come by. Unfortunately there is not much of a deeper answer to this question.
How much iron does it take to kill a Faery? How much salt?
That answer is relative, Depends on how large the Fae is and how much Iron you have. If you were to only tip your sword with Iron and then slice a Fae across the arm, it wouldn't do much. Say you stabbed a Fae in it's heart though, that is a different story. The more powerful the Fae, the more iron it will take to kill it. The same goes for Salt, though Iron is more deadly when it comes to Fae. Salt is generally used to hold them at bay, such as standing in a circle of salt or lining doors and windows with salt.
How old is too old?
That's hard to say. Fae have been around for a very long time. A lot of the Fae you meet could be up to thousands and thousands of years old. So we don't have a problem if you have a very old Faery, because odds are we will have some of our own, but try to keep he/she from being too all powerful. There should always be limits and your history should reflect the age of the Fae. We don't want to enter an area, where they could be Mary-sue/Gary-stu type deals.
Why are there solitary fae and where do their allegiances lie?
Solitary Fae are those who choose to not be part of a court, or have been kicked out of their court. Their allegiances lie with themselves. They are in fact, solitary, some of them can be bought into working for either court but that is because they are being paid. Their allegiances usually lie with themselves, though they may prefer one court over the other.
How do the portals work?
That is an interesting question, The portals can not be seen by anyone who does not have the sight to see them. Even so, those who do know they are there just know where to go. It is as if they walk into one spot and then they are gone. To a human it would look as if they thought they saw someone but they were not really there at all.
Are there limits to glamour?
A limit on a Faery's glamour depends, when you make a glamour you are taking energy from yourself to do so, unless you have layered this glamour so thick to the point where it comes naturally. If you are a weakend Faery, you would not be able to hold up a glamour for very long, so there are some limits.
What are the Doors to no where?
The Doors are doors, usually a set of double doors , that lead to a certain place in the world. Usually it leads to some reclusive part of it so the Fae leaving it is not to be seen but it they still lead to many places around the world. It is convenient to get around without many knowing about it
